The history of Wellness® dates back almost 84 years, with the inception of Old Mother Hubbard®, oven-baked dog biscuits. Although the dog biscuit company known as Old Mother Hubbard began in 1926, the company’s roots extend back even further to a bakery called A. Hubbard and Sons bakery in Gloucester, Massachusetts, makers of hard tack sea biscuits.
One day a local sailor threw a biscuit to his dog that happily gobbled it up. The rest, as they say, is history.

It all started with a cat named Spot. As a kitten, Spot was full of life, healthy and happy. As an adult, however, Spot became a sickly cat, plagued by digestive problems, skin irritations, excessive shedding and an unpleasant odor.
Spot’s owner, Andi Brown, followed her vet’s advice and switched to “premium” cat food, but none of the foods helped improve Spot’s condition. Believing that Spot’s “premium” food might actually be a cause of his problems, Andi tossed it out and cooked up a homemade stew full of all-natural fresh chicken and vegetables.
Spot’s transformation astonished everyone! Spot became a radiantly healthy cat. And Spot’s Stew was born!
In 1986, Andi launched Halo, Purely for Pets to help caring, conscious pet owners better understand how vital a role nutrition plays in their pet’s health and vitality.
