Back to School Dinners

Back to School: for some it’s a time of celebration (you know who you are); for others it’s a time of dread (you also know who you are). One thing we can all agree on – Back to School means Back to Busy. School day, work day, extracurricular activities, homework, and housework all mean one thing – go, Go, GO! Healthy meals are quite often an overlooked part of the Back to School season, and it is easy to see why. With all of the hullabaloo, sitting down to a family dinner can fall to the wayside. As a mom of three, all with different schedules, I’m always looking for ways to make my life easier while maintaining a healthy happy lifestyle. I love slow cooker recipes because they are so easy.

Making a Difference: Pachamama- Building a Farmer Owned Coffee Cooperative

By farmers, for farmers. Pachamama is the only coffee roaster in the United States that is 100% owned and governed by thousands of family farmers around the world. I first met Raúl in Costa Rica. He was a genuine, humble man with a great passion for life. He was a natural born leader. I later heard people call him El Padrino de Comerico Justo, or The Godfather of Fair Trade. He was my hero. Born and raised on a small coffee farm in Peru in the 1950s, Raúl del Águila Hidalgo rose to be a powerful leader of disadvantaged farmers around the world, including the thousands of families he represented as manager of the COCLA Cooperative in Quillabamba, Peru. As the Fair Trade movement pioneered a n

While I do love enjoying a cup of freshly whisked matcha with my morning read, I love using it in my household and bath products even more! Applying it to our skin topically, we can reap the benefits from matcha’s nutrient dense compounds. For this particular recipe, we’re going to whip up a matcha sugar scrub base, and amplify the b

The History of Tongue Cleaning

The tongue is one of the most unique organs in the body. Although actually a muscle, it holds a special place among sensory organs. It’s the organ of taste, is very sensitive to touch, and promotes speech. The tongue, by governing what comes out of the mouth (speech) and what goes in (food), can be considered a gatekeeper of utmost importance. Have you ever eaten something that unknowingly was rotten inside and when you tasted it, instinctively spat it out? That’s the tongue’s taste buds doing part of their job of screening what shouldn’t go into the body. With all its remarkable qualities, one would expect us to respect the tongue a little more. Most of us exercise the tongue daily (by ta

Best Carrier Oils for Aromatherapy

Essential oils are extremely small so they can pass through the skin and into the body quickly. But if you want to keep the oils on your skin and dilute them to create more gentleness on the skin you can combine them with carrier oils.
