DIY Insect Repellent
Making your own insect repellent is a quick, efficient way to help keep the bugs at bay. I've made various blends over the years and find this one to be most effective. I always keep a bottle in my car, ready to go for any adventure!
As always, use precaution with essential oils and test on a patch of skin before use. Be aware essential oils may stain or leave residue on clothing. Note that eucalyptus is contraindicated in children, so omit if blending for kids under 10.
30 drops Geranium Essential Oil
20 drops Citronella Essential Oil
20 drops Cedarwood Essential Oil
20 drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil
20 drops Lavender Essential Oil
10 drops Rosemary Essential Oil
20 drops Vanilla Blend Essential Oil (optional)
1 Tablespoon Vodka or Rubbing Alcohol (this helps dissolve the essential oils, which are not water soluble)
½ cup Witch Hazel
½ cup water (or Distilled Vinegar)
1 teaspoon Vegetable Glycerin (optional)
Drop all essential oils into an 8 oz. spray bottle and add vodka or alcohol. Shake to combine.
Add vegetable glycerin, which is not necessary but will help the ingredients stay combined.
Add water or vinegar and shake again.
Shake before each use.
